I have raised several puppies of different breeds from toy dogs such as poodles and little terriers right up to great big dogs like Rottweilers and Dobermans and I have to say that if you are going to be raising a large breed dog, it is exceptionally important to get them the right food. They are going to have their own unique set of needs and whereas with a smaller breed if they are cranky it is not such a big deal, a Rottweiler that is not quite up to its peak physical condition due to cheap food is not going to be easy to deal with. Most owners would be stunned to learn what a difference the right food makes in their dog’s overall attitude – but it does! My pride and joy, a female Doberman who is 90 lbs, I wanted to do everything right so I spent the $40 per 17lb bag to get her Iams Smart Puppy Large Breed Formula. I cannot recommend this food enough because it is brilliantly calibrated to increase not only the dog’s overall weight, but expand their mental capabilities due to having the right fat content. It actually contains 16% less fat than other Iams products which is to help the larger breed pups get a more steady growth rate so their skeletal system is not strained. My dog grew to be quite large, even for her breed and sex, but she definitely turned out with a great attitude and people constantly compliment her for not looking menacing, but extremely healthy and happy. I credit her physique and coat quality to Iams all the way and it worked for my little pit bull, too. He turned out bulky and solid with a very sound temperament. This is the way to go for any dog over 50 lbs.
